Francesca “Fran” Vecere
Fran has been a member of CrossFit 858 since January and has made some serious progress in such a short period of time. She always comes in smiling and in a good mood and her positive attitude is contagious. This is almost on the same level as her passion for learning and personal growth.
Incredibly Fran demonstrated these qualities even more so during our physical shutdown. During quarantine, Fran participated in our Mental WOD Group and set goals to keep her focused and accountable. This was no easy feat. Even though we were closed, Fran attended our zoom classes daily and made major improvements in strength and technique in the olympic lifts!
We are so glad to have you back in the gym Fran, keep up the great work. We look forward to seeing you take your fitness to the next level. We appreciate you!
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I started CrossFit back in January, so I’m still very new to the sport and eager to learn and improve.
What got you hooked on CrossFit?
What first got me hooked was the programming, I’d leave a class feeling defeated (in a good way) and I had never experienced that type of workout before! What made me stay was definitely the people. From the very start everyone was so welcoming and encouraging, and the community continues to motivate me daily!
What is your favorite movement?
My favorite movement is the Push Press.
Do you have any current goals you are trying to attain?
My current goal is to be able to do pull-ups unassisted, and at least 1 handstand push-up.
Do you have any advice for someone starting out in CrossFit?
My advice is to take the leap and do it! Starting something new can be scary and intimidating, especially when you don’t have a background in it… but the strength and confidence you feel as you improve is unbeatable, and you’ll make some great friends along the way!
Fun Fact:
A fun fact about me is when I was little I wanted to be an actress. I was actually in several commercials, one being a Nintendo game!

Quinten DeJong
Quinten stayed consistent over quarantine with his workouts and put extra effort into his mental health by participating in Mental WOD. Quinten pushes his limits, but also takes care of his body and is humble enough to scale where he needs to. You can usually catch him arriving to class early to do mobility and Crossover Symmetry for optimal shoulder health. He’s always been very enthusiastic since he stepped foot in our gym, and his eagerness to better himself every workout inspires us!
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
7 months
What got you hooked on CrossFit?
The mental aspect. Pushing yourself beyond the point of the pain and exhaustion just because you know you have so much more left to give!
What is your favorite movement?
Snatch. Still needs a lot of work but when it’s on point, it’s an amazingly choreographed movement.
Do you have any current goals you are trying to attain?
Make it as far as I possibly can in my own crossfit career to include the crossfit games and owning my own fitness compound.
Do you have any advice for someone starting out in CrossFit?
Everyone stepped in the box as a beginner at some point in time. You are your own worst enemy. As much as competition might arise in the gym, it’s all in good fun and to push each other to become better. It’s all smiles at the end of the workout!
Fun Fact:
I like to wave at people. Driving or just out and about. Trying to make someone’s day better.
