Kim is one of the most committed members we have, and you’ll often spot her in the NonStop HIIT class giving it her all. Her commitment to fitness is an inspiration – not just for being fit, but for proving how staying healthy can help you recover from surgery. Kim recently underwent not just one but TWO knee replacement surgeries in the past year, and her doctor has commented how impressed he is by her speedy recovery. Even right after her surgeries, Kim would still show up to class no matter how much she had to scale, but she kept moving. She even continued to consistently take walks and work her way back up to her regular hikes again. We are so impressed by her resolve to stay healthy and fit by continuously moving, no matter how small, that we feel she is more than deserving of recognition this month!
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
9 years
What got you hooked on CrossFit?
Back in the day, there were free “beginner” CrossFit classes on Saturday mornings. I attended one of these free classes to see what CrossFit was all about. The coach that day happened to be Coach James. I really loved the challenge of the workout and the positivity of the coaching. Coach James was fun, challenged us to try hard in the workout, but he kept things real (like he still does today). I remember one of the other newbies threw up in class, which of course made things even more awesome as I realized this was no ordinary 24 Hour Fitness Workout.
What is your favorite movement?
Power Clean
Do you have any current goals you are trying to attain?
I am recovering from two total knee replacement surgeries in the past 7 months, so my goal is to get back enough strength in my quads so I can hike Grand Canyon rim2rim2rim again next summer.
Do you have any advice for someone starting out in CrossFit?
Give your best effort in every workout and don’t worry about scores on the whiteboard. Remember to have fun and enjoy the friends you make along this fantastic fitness journey.
Fun Fact:
I am terrified of heights, but my favorite hike is in the Grand Canyon: Bright Angel Trail / North Kaibab. North Kaibab has wicked drop offs on some of the switchbacks.
Stay tuned for Miramar’s MOM for June later this week.
